Admission and Continuing Stay Criteria 

The purpose of the Admission and Continuing Stay Criteria is to provide guidance to the staff and prospective tenants in determining whether needs can safely be met in this setting. It is also used in determining when a tenant can no longer reside at Arlington Place. Arlington Place provides home health aides on site 24-hours a day 365 days a year. Professional Nursing services are also available during normal business hours, i.e., 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Arlington Place does not specialize in memory loss care; thus, does not provide any special memory loss programming. Arlington Place is nondiscriminatory. Residency will not be denied to any person because of sex, race, religion, national origin, or disabling condition.

1.      Age Requirement:  Spouse or head of household must be 55 years of age or older.

2.      Manage activities of daily living (ADL's):  Able to manage his or her activities of daily living (i.e., dressing, bathing, toileting, medication and mobility, etc.), keep apartment in an orderly fashion, free from odors, clutter, etc., and take care of own personal hygiene; or purchase additional services to meet the criteria.

3.      Manage of Incontinence: Able to manage incontinence through the use of pads or other incontinence measures; or purchases additional services to meet the criteria. tenantss are expected to supply their own incontinence materials.

4.      Manage Mobility:  Able to walk independently or with a cane or walker and/or able to self propel a wheelchair; or purchase additional services to meet the criteria.

5.      Manage Transferring:  Able to bear weight and stand to transfer self from one location to another, i.e., wheelchair to bed, chair to wheelchair, or wheelchair to automobile, etc.; or purchase additional services to meet the criteria. tenantss can purchase additional services from Arlington Place to meet the criteria; however, Arlington Place can provide assistance of no more than one staff person to assist with transferring.

6.      Manage Medication:  Will accept assistance with medication administration when Licensed Staff, Physician and/or family determine help is needed.

7.      Manage Nutritional Needs:  Able to feed self independently or with minimal assistance with setup and/or cueing; or purchase additional services to meet the criteria.

8.      Manage Medical Devises, Equipment, and/or Medical Need: Able to manage, monitor and care for medical devices and equipment, such as but not limited to colostomy, ileostomy, urinary catheter, needles, syringes and oxygen, etc.; or purchase additional services to meet the criteria.

9.      Socialization:

A.  Tenant is able to function adequately within the community without a threat of harm to self or others.

B.  Tenants will not regularly become disoriented to person, place and time that disrupt the community's stability and normal operation.

C.  Tenants will be able to relate appropriately with other tenants.

D.  Tenants cannot exhibit behavior that is verbally offensive or physically abusive to other tenantss, staff or visitors.

E.  Tenants can be forgetful or slightly confused, but will accept and respond to re- direction.

10.  Capable of self-preservation:  Able to remove self from danger in case of fire, high winds, or other environmental emergency with cueing and/or direction; or purchase additional services to meet the criteria.

11.  Financial:  Able to make full and prompt payment of rent and other charges; thus, have the financial resources to pay the assessed fees or make arrangements for assistance. The tenants should note: Tenants eligible for Medicare may be able to access Medicare reimbursement for certain portions of health-related services received through a Medicare-certified agency.

When a tenant no longer qualifies for residency, the Director of Tenants Services, along with the Director of Health Services, will discuss with the tenant and/or tenant's representative the need to change living arrangements. Although consultation with family members, the physician, and other health-related and social care provider will be utilized in assessing the tenant's ability to meet the above criteria, final determination rests with the Director of Tenant's Services and the Director of Health Services at Arlington Place.
